Kolkata Knight Riders lost their first match of the IPL 2024.

In the match No. 22 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) displayed a sensational bowling display as they restricted in-form Kolkata Knight Riders for 137/9 in 20 overs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 8.

CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (3/18) led the bowling attack while pacer Tushar Deshpande’s three-wicket haul and left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s 2/22 derailed KKR’s batting line-up. With the bat, Shreyas Iyer (34 off 32 balls), Rinku Singh (9 off 14 balls) and Andre Russell (10 off 10 balls) helped visitors to reach above 130 runs.

While chasing 138, CSK opener Rachin Ravindra fell early for 15 runs as the Super Kings managed to score 52/1 in six overs. However, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell stitched a match-winning partnership of 70 runs. Sunil Narine broke the stand in the 13th over as Mitchell departed after scoring 25 runs.

Towards the end, it became a one sided chase as Gaikwad’s unbeaten 67 runs and hard-hitter Shivam Dube’s 28 guided hosts CSK to a comprehensive 7-wicket win over Knight Riders. In the process, Shreyas Iyer-led KKR lost their first match in the ongoing IPL 2024.
