PBKS chased down 262 against KKR in match No. 42 of the IPL 2024.

In the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024), Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) big total of 261/6 went in vain as the visitors Punjab Kings (PBKS) chased down the target successfully at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

After opting to field first, PBKS had a horror night with the ball as Kolkata openers Phil Salt (75 off 37 balls) and Sunil Narine (71 off 32 balls) hammered a 138-run partnership for the first wicket as both batters provided a solid platform for other batters.

Venkatesh Iyer (39), Andre Russell (24), and skipper Shreyas Iyer (28) helped the hosts post a huge total of over 250 runs. For Punjab, Sam Curran, Harshal Patel, and Rahul Chahar picked one wicket each, while Arshdeep Singh took two wickets.

While chasing 262, visitors went off to a flier as their openers Jonny Bairstow and Prabhsimran Singh (54 runs off 20 balls) hammered 93/1 in the first six overs. However, Bairstow and Rille Rossouw (26) stitched a stunning partnership of 39-ball 85, which helped visitors reached a commanding position. In the 16th over, Bairstow completed his century off 45 balls.

Towards the end, Bairstpw and hard-hitter Shashank Singh (60*) chased down the impossible target of 262 runs as the visitors hammered the hosts by eight wickets in Kolkata. Bairstow remained unbeaten on 107 runs. This is also the highest ever total chased down in IPL history and in T20 cricket till now.
