IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 43 & 44 DC vs MI & LSG vs RR
DC and RR won their respective matches on Saturday in the ongoing IPL 2024.
In the first match of the day, Delhi Capitals (DC) secured a 10-run victory over the Mumbai Indians (MI). Batting first, Delhi capitalized on a brilliant innings from Jake Fraser-McGurk who smashed 84 runs. This laid the foundation for a mammoth total of 257 runs, which is DC’s highest ever total in the tournament history. Though Mumbai fought valiantly with Tilak Varma leading their chase with a fifty, they fell short by 10 runs in the final overs. Fraser-McGurk’s knock rightfully earned him the Player of the Match award.
What happened during the LSG vs RR match?
In the second match of the day, Rajasthan Royals (RR) secured a 7-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium, Lucknow. Batting first, LSG set a challenging target of 196 runs on the back of fifties from KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda.
However, RR’s chase was anchored by a magnificent unbeaten 121-run partnership between captain Sanju Samson (71) and Dhruv Jurel (52). Their partnership ensured a comfortable victory for the Royals with six balls to spare. Samson was adjudged Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:
After end of both matches on Saturday, DC, who won against MI, jumped to fifth spot on the table and now have 10 points and NRR of -0.276. Meanwhile MI, who lost the game, are placed at ninth position with six points and NRR of -0.261.
RR, who won the second match of the day against LSG, solidified their position at top of the table with 16 points. They’re just one win away from confirming playoffs qualification. Despite losing their home fixture, LSG didn’t drop down on the table and are still placed at fourth position.
Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have 10 points each, are placed at second and third positions. Chennai Super Kings, who will take on SRH in their next game, are slotted at sixth position on the table.
Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru occupy the last four positions respectively on the IPL 2024 standings.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)
Following DC and RR’s respective wins on Saturday, there were some major shakeups seen in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap leaderboard. DC skipper Rishabh Pant smashed 29 runs against Mumbai and remained at fourth spot with 371 runs. Whereas LSG captain KL Rahul, who hammered a 48-ball 76 against RR, leapfrogged to the third position with 378 runs to his name.
Rajasthan skipper Sanju Samson, who played a match-winning knock of 71* jumped to the second position with 385 runs to his name. Meanwhile, RCB opener Virat Kohli holds the top spot with 430 runs to his name. Kolkata opener Sunil Narine (357 runs) dropped to fifth place in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap leaderboard.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap):
After end of two matches on Saturday, Jasprit Bumrah, who picked one wicket against DC, has jumped to top spot displacing Harshal Patel. Both Bumrah and Harshal have 14 wickets, but with a better economy, Bumrah now has the Purple Cap.
DC’s Mukesh Kumar, who picked three wickets against MI, leapfrogged to fourth position and now has 13 wickets to his name. Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal, who failed to pick a single wicket against LSG, is slotted at third position with 13 scalps. Kuldeep Yadav, who also had a silent day against MI, is placed fifth with 12 wickets to his name.
