IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 45 & 46 GT vs RCB & CSK vs SRH

RCB and CSK won their respective matches on Sunday’s double header in the ongoing IPL 2024.

In the first match of Sunday’s double header in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batters displayed a stunning batting performance as they thrashed Gujarat Titans (GT) by nine wickets at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium, Ahmedabad.

After being asked to bat first, the hosts reached a monumental total of 200/3 in the overs. Sai Sudharsan (84*), Shahrukh Khan (58), and David Miller (26*) contributed towards Titans’ total. While chasing 201, RCB opener Virat Kohli (70*) and Will Jacks, who hammered his maiden IPL ton in just 41 balls, stitched a match-winning 166-run stand to guide the visitors to a nine-wicket win.

What happened during the CSK vs SRH match?

In the second match of the evening, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hammered 212/3 in 20 overs against in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After being asked to bat first, Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (98), Dary Mitchell (52) and Shivam Dube (39*) guided the hosts to post a total over 200 against a good Hyderabad bowling line-up.

While chasing 213, visitors had a horror start as they lost four batters: Travis Head (13), Abhishek Sharma (15), Anmolpreet Singh (0), and Nitish Reddy (15) inside 10 overs as CSK bowlers derailed Hyderabad innings. 

The Super Kings bowlers continued to put pressure as they bowled out SRH for 134. Notably, SRH have been bowled out for the first time in the ongoing season. For CSK, Tushar Deshpande picked four wickets, while overseas stars Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana contributed with two scalps each. Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur also chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Despite their win over GT, RCB stayed at bottom of the points table and now have six points from 10 games. CSK, who returned to winning ways after defeating SRH, jumped to third spot on the table.

Rajasthan Royals continue to lead the chart with 16 points, while KKR are placed at second position with better NRR than CSK, who have 10 points each.

Following their defeat against CSK, SRH dropped down a position and now find themselves at fourth on the list. Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Titans hold the fifth, sixth and seventh spots respectively. Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, who have same number of points are slotted at eighth and ninth spots respectively.

After the end of Sunday’s double header, there were a few changes seen in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap leaderboard. Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli, who smashed 70 runs against GT, became first batsman in the ongoing season to complete 500 runs and solidified his position at the top. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who hammered 98 against SRH, leapfrogged to second position and now has 447 runs to his name.

After scoring an unbeaten 84 against RCB, GT’s Sai Sudharsan now finds himself at third position with 418 runs to his name. RR and LSG captains, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul, are positioned at fourth and fifth positions with 385 and 378 runs respectively.

Following Sunday’s double header, three changes were seen in the Purple Cap leaderboard. SRH’s T Natarajan, who picked one wicket, moved forward to fifth spot and now has 13 wickets to his name.

CSK overseas duo of Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana, who picked two wickets each, entered the list of top five bowlers with most wickets in the ongoing season. Mustafizur is slotted at third position with 14 wickets, while Pathirana is next with 13 wickets.

Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the chart with 14 wickets, while Punjab Kings’ Harshal Patel is still at third position with 14 wickets as well.
