CSK & RCB won their respective matches against RR & DC in the IPL 2024 on May 12.

In the first match of the blockbuster Sunday, defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) produced a brilliant bowling effort as they reduced the in-form Rajasthan Royals (RR) to 141/5 in match No. 61 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Rajasthan’s Riyan Parag top scored with 47* runs. While other batters Yashasvi Jaiswal (24), Jos Buttler (21) and Dhruv Jurel (28) failed to convert their starts as visitors could manage a below-par total of 141 on a slow Chennai pitch. For Chennai, Simrajeet bagged three wickets and Tushar Deshpande scalped two wickets.

While chasing 142, Chennai batters Rachin Ravindra (27), skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (42*), and Daryl Mitchell (22) contributed with the bat as the hosts registered a five-wicket win over Rajasthan. With this victory, Chennai solidified their chances to reach IPL 2024 playoffs.

What happened during RCB vs DC IPL 2024 clash?

In the second match of the day, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) managed to reach 187/9 against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. 

After being asked to bat first, Bengaluru’s Rajat Patidar scored a blistering 32-ball 52 and was the top run-getter for the side. While other batters, Will Jacks (41), Cameron Green (32) and Virat Kohli (27) chipped in with the bat as the hosts reached the over 180-run mark. For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed and Rasikh Salam scalped two wickets each. Ishant Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, and Kuldeep Yadav took one scalp each.

While defending 188, Bengaluru bowlers provided the hosts a perfect start as they sent back DC’s David Warner (1), Jake Fraser-McGurk (21), Abhishek Porel (2) and Kumar Kushagra (2) in the first six overs. The visitors managed to score 54/4 in the first powerplay. The hosts kept things tight after the powerplay as well as they removed three more DC batters as they slumped to 100/6 in 12 overs.

Towards the end, RCB bowlers kept bowling in tight lines as they dismissed DC for 140 and won the must-win encounter by 47 runs. With this win, RCB have jumped to fifth spot in the IPL 2024 points table and have kept their hopes alive to reach the playoffs.

CSK, after a big win over RR, jumped to third spot on the points table with 14 points and NRR of +0.528. Meanwhile, RCB, who registered a superb win over DC, jumped to fifth spot on the table and have 12 points with NRR of +0.387.

Kolkata Knight Riders, who have already qualified for the playoffs, lead the chart with 18 points. Rajasthan Royals, with 16 points, hold onto the second position despite loss against CSK. Sunrisers Hyderabad are placed at fourth position with 14 points.

DC, who suffered a loss at the hands of RCB and dented their chances of going through to the playoffs, now find themselves at fifth spot with 12 points. Lucknow Super Giants are placed seventh with 12 points.

Gujarat Titans, who still have an outside chance to make it to the playoffs, find themselves placed eighth with 10 points. Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings are languishing at bottom of the table with eight points each.

Now new entrant was seen in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap leaderboard following two matches on Sunday. However, the batters already slotted in the top five, extended their scores in the ongoing season. RCB opener Virat Kohli, who smashed 27 runs against DC, continues to stay at top of the chart with 661 runs to his name. He also became first batter to breach 650-run mark in the ongoing season.

CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored a match-winning 42* against RR, is ranked second with 583 runs. RR captain Sanju Samson is slotted at fifth position with 486 runs to his name. He managed to add 15 runs in the game today.

Hyderabad’s overseas opener Travis Head is slotted in the third spot with 533 runs. Meanwhile, Gujarat’s Sai Sudharsan is ranked fourth with 527 runs.

After the end of the CSK vs. RR and RCB vs. DC matches, there are two changes in the IPL 2024 Purple Cap Leaderboard.

Delhi speedster Khaleel Ahmed, who bagged two wickets against RCB, jumped to fifth position with 16 wickets to his name. CSK fast bowler Tushar Deshpande, who took two wickets against Rajasthan, leapfrogged to fourth spot with 16 wickets.

Mumbai speedster Jasprit Bumrah continues to remain at the top with 20 wickets. Following him closely is PBKS’ pacer, Harshal Patel, who also has 20 scalps in the ongoing tournament. Meanwhile, Kolkata’s spinner Varun Chakarvarthy is ranked third with 18 wickets.
