IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 67, MI vs LSG
LSG ended their IPL 2024 campaign with a win over Mumbai Indians on Friday.
In match No. 67 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batters displayed a brilliant show as they hammered 214/6 in 20 overs against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on May 17. While chasing, Naman Dhir and Rohit Sharma smashed respective fifties but it went in vain as the hosts lost the match by 18 runs.
After being asked to bat first, Lucknow managed to reach 69/3 at the halfway stage, but vice-captain Nicholas Pooran and skipper KL Rahul took responsibility on their shoulders. Pooran scored a blistering 29-ball 75, whereas Rahul scored 55 runs.
Towards the end, Ayush Badoni played a quick-fire innings of 22* as the visitors posted a competitive total. For MI, Nuwan Thushara and Piyush Chawla scalped three wickets each.
While chasing 215, Mumbai had a perfect start as their openers Rohit Sharma and Dewald Brevis stitched a partnership of 88 runs. However, Lucknow bounced back after the powerplay as they took three quick wickets of – Brevis (23), Suryakumar Yadav (0) and Rohit (68) as the hosts crumbled to 97/3 after 11 overs after having a brilliant opening stand.
Lucknow bowlers bowled tight lines as they took two more wickets from skipper Hardik Pandya (16) and Nehal Wadhera as Mumbai were further down to 125/5 after the end of the first 15 overs.
Towards the end, Naman Dhir played a fighting knock of 62* in 28 balls, but it went in vain as the hosts managed to reach 196/6 in 20 overs while chasing 215 runs. Lucknow emerged victorious by 18 runs to end their campaign with a win.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:
Despite winning the match against Mumbai, KL Rahul-led LSG failed to enter the top four spot in the points table, as they ended up at sixth place with 14 points in the points table. Lucknow have now played all the league stage games.
After losing the match against Lucknow, Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai are languishing at the points table with eight points to their name. They are already out of the IPL 2024 playoffs race.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals are ranked at the first and second positions with 19 and 16 points, respectively. Both franchises have already booked their spots in the playoffs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad and defending champions Chennai Super Kings are positioned third and fourth respectively. Hyderabad have 15 points and Chennai have 14 points to their name after the end of match No. 67 in the ongoing tournament. Pat Cummins-led SRH have already qualified for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals are slotted at the fifth spot with 14 points to their name. However, Delhi have played all their league stage matches.
After Lucknow won the match against Mumbai, Royal Challengers Bengaluru slipped down to seventh position with 12 points. Bengaluru will play their last league stage game against CSK on May 18, which will be a virtual knockout game.
Gujarat Titans and Punjab Kings are ranked at the eighth and ninth positions, respectively. Both the franchises are already eliminated from the ongoing tournament.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)
In 67th match of the IPL 2024, LSG captain KL Rahul scored 55 runs off 41 deliveries and completed 500 runs in the ongoing tournament, but couldn’t enter the list of top five run-getters of the season. He will end the season with 520 runs to his name.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener Virat Kohli still leads the chart with 661 runs, while Chennai Super Kings’ captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is next with 583 runs. Both the batters would like to increase their lead in the coming game. Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Travis Head is placed third with 533 runs. At fourth is Rajasthan Royals’ Riyan Parag with 531 runs. At fifth is Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan with 527 runs, who has already played his last game this season.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)
With Jasprit Bumrah being rested in MI vs LSG clash, there were no changes seen in the Purple Cap leaderboard. Punjab Kings’ Harshal Patel leads the chart with 22 wickets. Bumrah, who got rested for the game, will end his season with 20 scalps to his name. Up next is Kolkata Knight Riders’ Varun Chakravarthy with 18 wickets, and it is to be noted he has potentially three more matches to play in the ongoing season.
Rajasthan Royals’ Yuzvendra Chahal and Delhi Capitals’ Khaleel Ahmed are placed fourth and fifth respectively with 17 wickets each.
