RCB qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs after defeating CSK by 27 runs.

After batting first, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) posted a fighting total of 218/5 in 20 overs against defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a do-or-die match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 18.

After being asked to bat first, Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis (54) and Virat Kohli (47) stitched a crucial stand of 78 runs for the first wicket and laid the platform for other batters. Rajat Patidar played a blistering knock of 41 runs along with Cameron Green’s unbeaten 38 as the hosts went past 200 runs. With the ball, CSK pacer Shardul Thakur scalped two wickets.

While chasing 219, Chennai had poor start as they lost skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (0) and Daryl Mitchell (4) inside the first six overs. However, Ajinkya Rahane (33) and Rachin Ravindra (66) stitched a crucial partnership of 66 runs as visitors reached 115/4 in 13 overs.

However, Ravindra Jadeja played an unbeaten innings of 42 runs while MS Dhoni smashed 25 runs in just 13 balls, but the visitors managed to reach only 191/7 in 20 overs and not only fell short of the win, but also failed to maintain their NRR, which eliminated them from the competition. With this crucial victory, Bengaluru qualified for the playoffs.
