IPL 2024 updated points table, Orange Cap & Purple cap after match 69 & 70, SRH vs PBKS & RR vs KKR
SRH thrashed PBKS in the day game, while the last league match of IPL 2024 between RR and KKR got washed out.
In the first match of Sunday, Punjab Kings (PBKS) faced Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last league match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 and posted a total of 214/5 in 20 overs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on May 19. While chasing, Abhishek Sharma smashed a blistering half-century as Hyderabad chased the target in 19.1 overs.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Punjab opener Prabhsimran Singh smashed 71 runs, whereas Atharva Taide (46) and Rilee Rossouw (49) also contributed with the bat. Towards the end, stand-in skipper Jitesh Sharma (32*) produced late fireworks as the visitors went past the 200-run mark.
Chasing 215, SRH opener Abhishek Sharma smashed a brilliant 28-ball 66 and provided the hosts a good start. Rahul Tripathi (33), Nitish Reddy (37) and Heinrich Klaasen (42) chipped in with the bat as Hyderabad won the match by five wickets.
What happened during the RR vs KKR match?
It was a sad end for the fans as the final match of the league stage between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) was called off due to persistent rain at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Sunday.
Both teams shared one point each. However, Kolkata and Rajasthan have already qualified for the playoffs.
IPL 2024 Updated Points Table:
After the end of two matches on Sunday, Hyderabad jumped to the second spot with 17 points and NRR of +0.414 to their name. Pat Cummins-led SRH ended their league stage campaign with eight wins and advanced through the playoffs.
After losing the match against SRH, Punjab ended their poor season at ninth position with just 10 points to their name. PBKS just won five games in the IPL 2024.
After rain washed out the second contest of the day between RR and KKR, Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata finished at the top of the points table with 20 points to their name. Meanwhile, Rajasthan ended up at third position with 17 points to their name.
Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru finished their IPL 2024 campaign at fourth place with 14 points to their name. After having a tough first half, Bengaluru still managed to qualify for the playoffs.
Defending champions Chennai Super Kings failed to defend their title as they finished their IPL 2024 campaign at fifth position. CSK managed to win seven games out of 14 played in the league stage.
The Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants finished at sixth and seventh spots respectively with 14 points each. Both franchises failed to enter the top four in the points table.
Last year’s runners-up, the Gujarat Titans, ended their poor campaign at eighth place with just 12 points to their name. The five-time champions Mumbai Indians had a horrific season as they finished at the bottom of the points table with just four wins to their name.
IPL 2024: Most Runs (Orange Cap)
After the end of match No. 69 and 70, there were no changes seen in the IPL 2024 Orange Cap Leaderboard.
Bengaluru star batter Virat Kohli continues to stay at the top with 708 runs after the end of league stage matches in the ongoing tournament. Kohli is the first player to breach the 700-run mark in the IPL 2024.
Chennai skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ended his campaign with 583 runs to his name. Gaikwad is currently ranked second. Hyderabad opener Travis Head, who got out on a duck against Punjab, remained at third position with 533 runs.
Following a washout between RR and KKR, Rajasthan’s Riyan Parag finds himself at fourth position with 531 runs. Gujarat’s young sensation, Sai Sudharsan, finished his campaign with 527 runs. Sudharsan is ranked in fifth place after the end of league stage matches.
IPL 2024: Most Wickets (Purple Cap)
After the end of the SRH vs PBKS and RR vs KKR matches, there were a few changes seen in the Purple Cap Leaderboard. PBKS pacer Harshal Patel solidified his position at the top with 24 wickets. Patel scalped two wickets against Hyderabad in the first match of the day. With Punjab ruled out of the tournament, it will be interesting to see if he ends up winning the Purple Cap or not.
Harshal’s teammate Arshdeep Singh, who took two scalps against SRH, jumped to third place with 19 wickets. Arshdeep will not add more wickets to his tally as his side is already out of the ongoing season. Meanwhile. Mumbai pacer Jasprit Bumrah finished his campaign with 20 wickets. Currently, Bumrah is placed second.
Kolkata’s spinner Varun Chakarvarthy and Chennai pacer Tushar Deshpande slipped down to the fourth and fifth positions, respectively. Chakarvarthy has 18 scalps, whereas Tushar finished his campaign with 17 wickets.
