RCB are placed fifth on the IPL 2024 points table after win against DC.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured their 5th consecutive win of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 when they defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) at home by 47 runs on Sunday. This was a huge achievement for the Faf du Plessis-led side, who had won only one game out of their first seven encounters in the tournament.

When invited to bat first, the hosts scored 187/9 in the allotted 20 overs. Rajat Patidar took the lead with 52 off 32 balls, followed by Will Jacks (41 off 29), Cameron Green (32* off 24), and Virat Kohli (27 off 13).

Rasikh Salam was DC’s most effective bowler, with two wickets and 23 runs conceded in three overs. Khaleel Ahmed (2/31) also claimed a few wickets in his four overs.

In response, Delhi’s innings collapsed for 140 in 19.1 overs. Six batters in the lineup scored in the single digits, indicating a subpar batting performance. Akshar Patel led the way for DC, hitting 57 off 39 deliveries.

Yash Dayal was Bengaluru’s outstanding bowler, taking three wickets and conceding 20 runs in 3.1 overs. Lockie Ferguson (2/23), Cameron Green (1/19), and Mohammed Siraj (1/33) all had strong bowling performances.

Here is how RCB can qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs

The victory did RCB a whole lot of good in the battle for a top-four finish, taking their overall points tally to 12 from 13 matches with a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.387. RCB’s best-case scenario is SRH winning one or both of their matches to take the third spot in the points table and LSG not winning more than one.

RCB are currently fifth in the points table following a convincing home win over DC, and they still have a genuine chance of finishing in the top four thanks to their robust NRR of 0.387.

They will face CSK in their final game, which may be a virtual knockout if other results from SRH and LSG go their way. In that instance, RCB must defeat CSK by 18 runs or more to surpass them on NRR (assuming they score 200 while batting first).

If the target is set at 201, they must reach it in 18.1 overs or less. RCB will be eliminated, regardless of their victory margin against CSK, if SRH win at least one and LSG win both their remaining games.
