IPL 2024: SLC pulls out Wanindu Hasaranga from the tournament

SRH acquired Wanindu Hasaranga for his base price of INR 1.5 crores at the IPL 2024 auction.

Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have been dealt with a huge blow as their star-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been pulled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 tournament due to heel injury.

Hasaranga was last seen in action during his country’s full fledged tour of Bangladesh in March 2024. He picked two wickets in the sole T20I he played and then picked six wickets in the ODI series. However, he was slated for return to test cricket after taking u-turn from his retirement, but he was then handed two-test suspension by the ICC.

Meanwhile, on 26th March, reports emerged that the 26-year-old might be joining SRH camp a week late after complaining of pain on his left heel. But now it looks like the injury is more serious as the all-rounder has been ruled out of the IPL 2024.

Hasaranga was bought by SRH at the IPL 2024 auction for his base price of INR 1.5 crores following him being released by RCB ahead of the auction.

SLC writes a letter to the BCCI, explaining Wanindu Hasaranga’s unavailability in IPL 2024

The Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) has now written a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and explained why the leg-spinner has pulled out of the IPL 2024 edition. The development was confirmed by Hasaranga’s manager, Shyam.

His manager also added that the Sri Lankan player went to the Dubai for medical advice about his heel injury and experts have advised him to take a precautionary rest.

“I believe so. Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the BCCI informing them about his unavailability. He went to Dubai for medical advice and stayed there for three days. Given the current situation, the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season,” the player’s manager, Shyam, told Cricbuzz.
