Suryakumar Yadav missed MI’s first three games in the IPL 2024.

After losing first three games of the season, five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have received a massive boost ahead of their fourth match of the season as their star batter Suryakumar Yadav, who missed the first three games, has been reportedly declared fit. It means, MI will have Suryakumar in their playing XI in their next match against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, April 7.

The world No. 1 T20I batter Suryakumar, suffered a grade II tear in his ankle during the three-match T20I series in South Africa last year. Yadav also missed the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home following his injury and sports hernia surgery, which he underwent earlier this year in Germany.

Suryakumar Yadav is fit now: A BCCI source confirmed

Earlier few reports claimed that SKY had undergone a second fitness test on March 21 after failing to clear the first test at the at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). However, the star batter didn’t get a green signal from the NCA as he missed three games for MI in the ongoing IPL 2024.

According to the latest development, the NCA in Bengaluru, on April 3, has declared middle-order batter Yadav fit, who has been out of action for more than three months.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the physios at the NCA didn’t want to take any risk and wanted Suryakumar to get fully fit as he will be an important member of the Indian squad for the ICC T20I World Cup 2024, which is to be played in the USA and West Indies in June.

“He is fit now. The NCA made him play a few practice games and he looked good. He can join the Mumbai Indians team. We wanted to be sure that when Surya goes back to MI, he is 100 percent fit and ready to play games. He wasn’t feeling 100% during his first fitness Test before the IPL, so we waited to see if there was any pain while he was batting,” a source in the BCCI confirmed to Indian Express, adding that MI Batter SKY had to undergo three fitness tests.
