Suryakumar Yadav won the Player of the Match award against SRH for his unbeaten hundred.

Mumbai Indians (MI) star batter Suryakumar Yadav hammered a match-winning century against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the match No. 55 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 6. His unbeaten knock of 102 runs guided the hosts to a seven-wicket win as they kept their hopes alive for reaching the playoffs.

After being asked to bat first, Hyderabad managed to reach 173/8 runs in 20 overs, with Travis Head (48) and Nitish Reddy (20) contributing with the bat. Towards the end, skipper Pat Cummins chipped in with 35* as they reached over 170-run mark. For MI, skipper Hardik Pandya and Piyush Chawla took three wickets each.

While defending 174, Hyderabad had a perfect start with the ball as they removed the top three batters of Mumbai inside six overs. However, Suryakumar Yadav along with Tilak Varma started playing counter-attacking cricket, with Suryakumar taking more responsibility on his shoulders and Varma playing the role of an anchor.

Suryakumar didn’t let any SRH bowlers to settle against him as he continued to smash them all over the park. Towards the end, he hammered an unbeaten 102 runs as Tilak remained not out on 37 runs. The duo stitched a match-winning stand of 143 runs in just 79 balls as they guided MI to a seven-wicket win. However, during the chase, Suryakumar was seen limping, which raised concern as he is supposed to play for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 next.

Suryakumar Yadav shares crucial update regarding on his injury

Yadav suffered an injury to his ankle while fielding for his team during the final T20I of the three-match series against South Africa in December 2023. This was followed by a sports hernia diagnosis and he underwent surgery in Germany in January 2024.

Suryakumar then missed the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home and then also missed the first few games in the IPL 2024 before returning to action. However, during the match No. 55 between MI and SRH, Suryakumar was seen limping, which once again concerned the fans about his injury.

Following his match-winning hundred, Suryakumar was asked by commentators during post-match presentation on why he was spotted limping during the chase. The MI batter revealed that he was just tired and assured there were no injury concerns.

“After December 2023, this is the first time i fielded for 20 overs and then batted around 18 overs in the game, so that’s why i was tired, and i will be fine by tomorrow,” said Suryakumar Yadav to commentator Sanjay Manjrekar when asked on why he was limping while batting against SRH at Wankhede on Monday.
