Rajasthan Royals edged Delhi Capitals by 12 runs in the IPL 2024 match in Jaipur.

Star batter Riyan Parag’s stunning knock helped the Rajasthan Royals (RR) post 185/5 against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No. 9 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on March 28.

After opting to field first, DC had their early breakthrough as RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal departed for just five runs. He was bowled by the inswing delivery of pacer Mukesh Kumar. Later in the sixth over of the first innings, left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed ended Royals skipper Sanju Samson’s struggle at the crease. Samson scored 15 runs.

In the eighth over of RR’s innings, opener Jos Buttler was adjudged LBW, with Kuldeep Yadav picking his wicket. However, Ravichandran Ashwin played a little cameo as he notched 29 runs before giving his wicket to left-arm spinner Axar Patel. After the end of 14 overs the Royals made 90 runs and lost four wickets.

After Ashwin did his job, Parag made his presence felt for the second match on the trot. He struck two boundaries and a six off Ahmed to take RR past 100 in the 15th over. In the end, Parag smashed an unbeaten 84-run knock, which helped the Royals reach 185/5 in 20 overs.

While defending 186 runs, hosts RR started well, as left-arm speedster Nandre Burger picked up two crucial wickets of Mitchell Marsh (23 runs) and Ricky Bhui (0 runs), as the visitors scored 59/2 in the powerplay.

In the 12th over of the DC innings, RR pacer Avesh Khan gave the hosts a big breakthrough. Avesh removed the dangerous David Warner, who scored 49 runs.

In the 14th over, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal removed Rishabh Pant. Pant departed after scoring 28 runs. Chahal gave the hosts more grip in the match as he removed Abhishek Porel in the 16th over.

However, Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten knock of 44 runs of 23 balls and Axar’s 14* went in vain as RR edged DC by 12 runs.
