Mayank Yadav has picked up six wickets in the IPL 2024 till now.
Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) assistant coach Sridharan Sriram has provided a crucial update on their star young speedster Mayanak Yadav ahead of their crucial clash against table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 at the Ekana Stadium on April 27.
The young pacer made his IPL debut in the ongoing tournament during the match against the Punjab Kings and registered a three-wicket haul. In LSG’s next match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Mayank picked up three wickets and also won Player of the Match award for his match-winning performance.
However, during the match against the Gujarat Titans, Mayank, who grabbed the spotlight for his fiery pace, just bowled one over and went off the field, complaining of abdominal soreness. His fastest ball in the over against GT was 140.9 kmph. Since then, he has missed Super Giants’ four league games in the ongoing IPL 2024.
We will have a final test ahead of the game: LSG assistant coach on Mayank Yadav availability for RR match
Ahead of their high voltage encounter against RR, LSG’s assistant coach Sridharan Sriram opened up that Mayank is looking fit but they will have a final test ahead of the Rajasthan match and then only the franchise will take a call on his participation.
“He is bowling today and looks fit, but we will have a final test ahead of the game tomorrow then only we will take a call on his participation against RR,” said Sridharan Sriram in the pre-match press conference on Friday.
“He is a terrific talent and from the place he comes, he knows very well what to do and what not to. The quality he has with his length is not inferior to others in this season’s IPL and with that pace, it is very hard to play shots against him, and that is what makes him special,” said Sriram.
How Mayank Yadav has performed so far in the IPL 2024?
The 21-year-old Mayank was bought by the Lucknow-based franchise at the IPL 2022 auction but didn’t get any chance to play during the 2022 edition. However, in the IPL 2023, he missed the whole season due to torn hamstring.
In the ongoing IPL 2024, the right-arm speedster has played three games and picked up six wickets with a superb economy of 6.00. His express pace bowling has helped him to make the headlines as many cricket pundits believe that he should get a a place in the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in June.
