IPL 2025 auction: 3 players Mumbai Indians (MI) might target through RTM card
MI retained Jasprit Bumrah in the top bracket for INR 18 crores ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have finished two of the last three Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons at the bottom of the points table. The franchise and their fans are desperate to end the trophy drought soon.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Mumbai have retained five of their match-winners: Jasprit Bumrah (INR 18 crores), Suryakumar Yadav (INR 16.35 crores), Hardik Pandya (INR 16.35 crores), Rohit Sharma (INR 16.30 crores), and Tilak Varma (INR 8 crores).
They will head into the IPL 2025 mega auction with INR 45 crores in their purse and one Right To Match (RTM) card which they can use on an uncapped player.
In this article, we will discuss the three possible names that Mumbai can target to utilise their RTMs on at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Three players Mumbai Indians (MI) might target through RTM card at the IPL 2025 mega auction:
3. Piyush Chawla
Mumbai bought veteran Indian leg-spinner Piyush Chawla for only INR 50 lakhs at the IPL 2023 auction and he was one of their top performers in the last two seasons, picking up 35 wickets in 27 games. Chawla helped Mumbai reach the playoffs in IPL 2023.
Chawla, who last played for India in 2012 is now an ‘uncapped’ player and Mumbai can use the RTM on him. According to the revival of the ‘uncapped player rule‘ an Indian capped player who hasn’t played international cricket for the last five years will be considered in the uncapped category.
2. Akash Madhwal
An Indian pacer with the ability to take wickets at any stage of the innings is always a hot prospect at the IPL auction. Akash Madhwal has impressed everyone in his two seasons with Mumbai. He joined the franchise in 2023 and made an impact right away.
He took 14 wickets in eight games in his debut season with a best of 5/5. Akash has 19 wickets for MI in 13 games. Madhwal could be the player Mumbai use their RTM on in the mega auction.
1. Nehal Wadhera
Nehal Wadhera seems to be the likeliest player on whom MI might use their RTM on in the upcoming auction.
The 24-year-old joined the franchise in 2023 and was impressive with 241 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 145. He played six games in 2024 and scored 109 runs and Mumbai were guilty of under-utilising him down the order.
The southpaw is effective against both spin and pace. He has a good temperament and can be used as a floater anywhere in the line-up.
