IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Anshul Kamboj
Anshul Kamboj recently took 10 wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy against Kerala.
Haryana speedster Anshul Kamboj grabbed headlines recently as he became only the third bowler in the Ranji Trophy history to pick up all 10 wickets in an innings.
The 23-year-old seamer achieved this feat against Kerala in their Ranji Trophy 2024-25 fixture in Rohtak. Kamboj finished with figures of 30.1-9-49-10, becoming only the sixth Indian bowler to bag a 10-wicket innings haul in First Class (FC) cricket.
Kamboj’s maiden stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL) came last season, when he made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians. But the youngster was released by MI ahead of the the IPL 2025 mega auction.
After his historic performance in the Ranji Trophy, multiple teams might be lining up in the auction to attain his services.
Three teams who might target Anshul Kamboj in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Mumbai Indians (MI)
MI have retained five capped players and will have one Right To Match (RTM) card option in the mega auction to use on an uncapped player. Among the released players are Kamboj, who made his IPL debut last season and snared two wickets in three outings, and pacer Akash Madhwal, who has played for them in the last two seasons.
MI might use their only RTM card on one of these two pacers as they would want to have some quality Indian pacers in their rank, apart from Jasprit Bumrah.
The Wankhede’s bouncy nature suits Kamboj’s hit-the-deck style of bowling and he could return to MI next season.
2. Gujarat Titans (GT)
GT have retained five players and none of them is a pacer. So the IPL 2022 winners will be purchasing a spate of pacers in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction.
They might eye Kamboj given his recent exploits in the Ranji Trophy. Titans is a franchise that likes to have a coterie of Indian seamers – they had Sushant Mishra, Kartik Tyagi, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma, and Darshan Nalkande last season, and all of them have been released. So, Kamboj might on GT’s radar at the mega auction.
3. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
CSK are another team who have let go of several Indian seamers – they have released Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary, Simarjeet Singh, Shardul Thakur.
Hence, if the five-time champions are impressed by Kamboj’s domestic performances, they could look to rope him in at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
