IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 teams who might target Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer will enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with base price of INR 2 crores.
Jofra Archer is set to enter the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction pool at the base price of INR 2 crores. Missing the last season to focus on fitness and manage his workload, the England speedster has returned looking sharp in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia and West Indies.
Archer has previously represented Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL. The star fast bowler has an impressive IPL record with 48 wickets in 40 games and won Most Valuable Player award in the 2020 edition.
Primarily a bowler, Archer can be a dangerous lower-order batsman as well; he can contribute with a quick-fire knock towards the end of the team innings. Archer showcased his batting skills in the third game of the West Indies vs England ODI series, where he smashed 38 runs off just 17 balls, including three towering sixes.
Archer’s wicket-taking ability in the powerplay as well as death overs can help him fetch a handsome amount at the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. On that note let’s take a look at three teams that might target Jofra Archer in the auction.
Three teams that might target Jofra Archer in the IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Rajasthan Royals (RR)
Archer represented RR from 2018 to 2020. His potential return will help RR pair him with Sandeep Sharma to form a strong with Sandeep’s swing and Archer’s fearsome pace.
Archer’s presence will also add an extra depth to the Rajasthan’s batting lineup. If bought, Archer can help players like Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel in strongly finishing the innings.
2. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab Kings will enter the auction with the highest purse of INR 110.5 crores as they have retained only two players, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh.
Having the opportunity to rebuild almost the whole squad, PBKS can form their bowling unit around Archer. After releasing Arshdeep Singh, Archer’s possible addition will help Punjab resolve their death bowling woes.
3. Gujarat Titans (GT)
Gujarat Titans have not retained any fast bowlers before the IPL 2025 mega auction. Gujarat, who have released Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma, will enter the auction with their eyes set on premium pace bowling options.
Archer’s possible inclusion will pair him with spin-bowling all-rounder Rashid Khan giving GT high-quality eight overs. His control of the new ball along with his batting abilities will make him a dream signing for the IPL 2022 winners.
