IPL 2025 mega auction: 3 wicket-keepers Mumbai Indians might target to buy
Mumbai Indians have not retained any wicket-keeper ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction, scheduled for November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, will come as an opportunity for all the franchises to rebuild their squads. With all the teams submitting their retention lists on October 31, it is now known that the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have not retained any wicket-keeper before the mega auction.
In their auction strategy, MI have opted to maintain their Indian core, retaining five players – Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. Notably, the franchise decided to let go of their big-money signing Ishan Kishan.
This retention strategy has left MI in search of a reliable wicket-keeper batsman. In this article, we will take a look at three wicket-keepers that the franchise can target in the upcoming mega auction.
Three wicket-keepers Mumbai Indians might target in IPL 2025 mega auction:
1. Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma could be a tempting option for Mumbai Indians. Jitesh was with MI in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, but didn’t get a chance as Parthiv Patel was the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman.
Jitesh has evolved into a reliable finisher in the last couple of seasons and his possible arrival will provide support to Hardik Pandya in the middle order.
Furthermore, Jitesh is also an excellent hitter of spin, which can make him valuable for the franchise during the later stages of the tournament. He bats aggressively with a fearless approach.
2. Quinton de Kock
MI might have their eyes on Quinton de Kock once again. The franchise will be looking for a reliable opener following Ishan Kishan’s departure. De Kock’s possible return to Mumbai will partner him with Rohit Sharma again, reigniting a highly successful pair for the franchise.
The South African was part of MI from 2019 to 2021 and played a key role in the franchise’s title-winning campaigns in 2019 and 2020. Additionally, the pace and bounce on offer at Wankhede will suit the South African opener’s strokeplay.
3. Ishan Kishan
Despite releasing Ishan Kishan, MI might still target him in the auction. The 26-year-old Indian wicket-keeper is one of the most exciting talents in the country. His versatility to bat in both the top and middle-order makes him a valuable asset in the shortest format of the game.
In case of his potential comeback to MI, Kishan’s aggressive approach will suit Wankhede’s batting-friendly pitch and small boundary dimensions. Furthermore, his best IPL season came in 2023 playing for MI, where he scored 454 runs at a healthy strike rate of 145.
