Only one IPL 2025 match will be played on Sunday, April 6.
The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is thrilling cricket fans around the globe with exciting games everyday. Since the inception of the IPL, weekends have been fun to watch for the fans as double-headers, two games in a day, are played on Saturdays and Sundays. Meanwhile, in some editions, due to certain circumstances Saturdays have seen only one game being played.
However, in a twist, the third Sunday of IPL 2025, April 6, will see only one match being played – in the evening – between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Gujarat Titans (GT). This has left fans scratching their heads and wondering why only one game will be played on this Sunday.
Here’s why there won’t be double headers in IPL 2025 on Sunday
Originally, two matches were scheduled to be played on Sunday, April 6. The first match of the day – afternoon game – was supposed to be played between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. However, it was rescheduled and hence there will be only game on Sunday.
Notably, the match will now be played on April 8, Tuesday instead of Sunday. The match was rescheduled as Kolkata police notified the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) that they won’t be able to provide security for the match on April 6, Sunday as the day collides with Hindu festival Ram Navami. Hence, the CAB requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule the game and it was rescheduled.
“The decision follows a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) regarding the deployment of personnel across the city owing to festivities. The authorities have recommended that the game be moved to Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 3:30 PM, and the request has been accommodated accordingly,” BCCI earlier stated in an official release.
The festival of Ram Navami is a special occasion for Hindus as they celebrate the birth of Lord Rama, one of the avatars of God Vishnu. As a result, Indians consider Ram Navami as one of the prestigious festivals with government organisations declaring it a national holiday too.
KKR will face LSG in match No. 19 of the season on Tuesday. Interestingly, IPL 2025 will see match No. 20 (Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Gujarat Titans) and 21 (Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru) being played before match No. 19.
