The IPL 2026 auction will be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi.

The IPL 2026 auction will be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. The total number of players to undergo the hammer will be 350. Of the 350 players shortlisted, 240 are Indian, and 110 are from overseas. There are 77 available slots to fill across all 10 IPL franchises.

As teams try to address key shortages ahead of the new season, a few overseas players stand out as genuine prospects for aggressive bidding.

The IPL auction witnesses intense bidding wars, especially for top international players who have the potential to change a franchise’s fortunes overnight. On that note, let’s take a look at the top three overseas players who could cross the 15 crore mark in the auction.

3. Wanindu Hasaranga

Wanindu Hasaranga is a star spinner in T20 cricket. He has played 238 T20 games, taking 332 wickets at an economy of 6.97 and best bowling figures of 6/9. He has also scored 2463 runs with the bat, with a strike rate of 142.23 and a best score of 77*.

Hasaranga has played for two franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and the Rajasthan Royals.

He has played 37 matches in the IPL, taking 46 wickets at an economy rate of 8.41, with his best bowling performance being 5/18. Hasaranga will be in high demand at the IPL 2026 auction because many teams are eyeing quality spinners.

Hasaranga’s wrong ones and mystery balls have bamboozled the batters across the globe, and the fact that Hasaranga can bowl with a new ball as well puts him in demand. His batting abilities are just a bonus for teams looking to lengthen their batting.

2. Matheesha Pathirana

Matheesha Pathirana has an excellent record in T20S with 132 wickets in 99 matches, with an economy of 8.61 and best bowling figures of 4/20.

He developed his bowling skills under the tutelage of MS Dhoni in Chennai Super Kings (CSK), with whom he played for four seasons. He took 47 wickets at an economy of 8.68 in 32 IPL games, with best bowling figures of 4/28.

Pathirana has been troubled by injuries in recent times. He is known for his bowling action, which is similar to that of the legendary Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga. However, Pathirana has not been able to achieve the level of success due to form and fitness issues.

He has learned from the best and is extremely effective in death overs due to his pace and penchant for bowling yorkers in the end. He is a dream pick for any franchise, and even the Chennai Super Kings might want to bring him back.

1. Cameron Green

Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has put himself in the very first lot of players to undergo the hammer, as he has registered for the IPL 2026 auction as a batter. Green has returned this year after serving a huge time-out due to back surgery.

With a few teams looking for an all-rounder who brings huge value to the team. Green can hit huge shots and even bat in the top order, and his medium-pace bowling is perfect with both the new ball and in death overs.

Green is not new to the IPL, as he made his debut for the Mumbai Indians, who had bought him for INR 17.50 crores. He has also played for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Overall, Green has played 29 games, scoring 707 runs with a strike rate of 153.69, including one century and two fifties. He has also taken 16 wickets at an economy of 9.07.
