IPL 2027: Will Hardik Pandya become PBKS new captain if his trade gets finalised?

Hardik Pandya has led Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.

Hardik Pandya is likely to leave Mumbai Indians and join Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2027. Under the proposed deal, Arshdeep Singh and Vishnu Vinod could move to MI in exchange for Pandya.

According to a Sportstar report, both franchises have almost agreed to the trade. The paperwork is expected to be completed soon, with an official announcement likely before the November 17 retention deadline.

Reports of Hardik moving to PBKS also raise questions about the team’s captaincy. The all-rounder has experience of leading two IPL teams, while Shreyas Iyer is currently PBKS captain.

Will Hardik Pandya replace Shreyas Iyer as Punjab Kings captain?

Hardik Pandya could be an option for the captaincy role if he joins Punjab. However, it is not yet confirmed whether he will replace Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas led Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final and has been an important part of the team. The franchise could continue with him as captain for another season.

Punjab could also use Hardik as an experienced all-rounder without leadership changes. His batting and bowling would give the team another strong option.

Hardik guided Gujarat Titans to the title in their first season in 2022. Under his captaincy, the team even reached the final in 2023.

He returned to Mumbai Indians as captain ahead of IPL 2024. However, his time as MI captain was not very successful, as the team struggled in two of his three seasons.

If Hardik joins Punjab, he will get a fresh start with a new team. Whether he becomes captain or plays under Iyer will depend on the franchise’s decision. For now, Shreyas remains Punjab Kings’ captain, and the team has not announced any change.
