Abhishek Sharma registered the highest score by an Indian batter in the IPL.

It was a record-breaking night at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, where fans witnessed some of the cleanest hitting in a T20 match. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who suffered consecutive defeats, finally bounced back in their own fashion.

They made a mockery of Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) bowling attack registering the second-highest successful run-chase in the IPL history courtesy of an incredible innings from Abhishek Sharma. The 24-year-old had some luck, but made it count. He slammed a 40-ball ton and went on to register the highest individual score by an Indian in the IPL.

He ended up scoring 141 runs off just 55 balls, which included 14 fours and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 256.36, and SRH made 247/2 in 18.3 overs to register the second-highest run chase in IPL history.

Abhishek was under pressure coming into the game, having scored only 51 runs in the first five innings this season. He took his chance early on and got the momentum. He was dropped twice in his innings and was out caught off the bowling of Yash Thakur, but it was a no-ball. Then, he didn’t look back and played one of the best IPL innings ever.

He completed his fifty off 19 balls and scored his century off 40 balls. Once he completed his fifty, he took a paper out of his pocket and thanked the SRH fans, who came out to support their team. The note read, “This one is for Orange Army.” After the game, Abhishek also mentioned Yuvraj Singh, who is his mentor and India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav.

Abhishek Sharma said, “This one is very special and I was thinking that I wanted to break the losing streak, it was very tough as a player and as a youngster, but the mood in the team was very good. Special mention to Yuvi (paaji), I have been talking to him and also thanks to Suryakumar Yadav as well. I have been in touch with him and he has been there for me.”

With this win, SRH have moved from the bottom to eighth place as they have two wins now. They will now play consecutive games against Mumbai Indians away and at home on April 17 and 23 respectively.
