Digvesh Rathi won the Player of the Match for his bowling in LSG’s win over MI.
Digvesh Rathi, Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) spinner has copped a second fine and another demerit point for his “Notebook Celebration” to send off Naman Dhir of Mumbai Indians (MI) after their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match in Lucknow on April 4.
Digvesh Rathi was named the Player of the Match for his 1/21 against MI for LSG. However, Rathi was found breaching the IPL code of conduct for the second time. The first time Rathi copped a warning was when LSG faced off against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Rathi started the celebration after dismissing PBKS opener Priyansh Arya in LSG’s last game. Arya attempted a pull shot against a short outside-off delivery from Rathi in the third over of the PBKS’ chase, and Shardul Thakur caught the top edge.
Rathi then approached Arya, who he had played with in the Delhi Premier League, held his left hand like a page, and feigned to write down the dismissal. He received a warning from the on-field umpire following that.
Rathi received one demerit point and a punishment of 25% of his match fee from the BCCI after the game.
Digvesh Rathi’s ‘notebook celebration’ earns him another fine and demerit point from IPL
LSG spinner Digvesh Rathi, who was fined by the BCCI, carried out his contentious celebration once more following his wicket during Friday’s IPL 2025 match against MI.
Digvesh Rathi received one demerit point and a 50% match fee penalty for sending Naman Dhir out with a “writing in the notebook” celebration. For Rathi, it was the second such offence and penalty under Article 2.5 of the Code of Conduct.
Even though he was a considerable distance away from the batter, the most recent Level 1 code of conduct violation resulted in a larger fine. In addition to the demerit points he already received from the previous incident, the offense earned him two more.
“Digvesh Singh, Bowler, Lucknow Super Giants, has been fined 50 percent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Mumbai Indians at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on Friday. This was his second Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 this season, and hence, he has accumulated Two Demerit Points, in addition to One Demerit Point, which he accumulated during LSG’s match against Punjab Kings on April 01, 2025,” a statement from the IPL committee read.
The IPL Code of Conduct states that a player who accumulates four demerit points will be subject to one suspension point, which entails missing one game. Rathi will need to exercise caution even in the forthcoming seasons because demerit points are retained on a person’s record for a duration of 36 months.
