Hardik Pandya registered figures of 5/36 against LSG.

Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya scripted history with his brilliant show with the ball in match 16 of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The Indian all-rounder clinched a five-wicket haul in the match to dismantle LSG batters.

MI captain Pandya opted to bowl first in the match after winning the toss at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. LSG piled up a mammoth total of 203/8 in the first innings, thanks to a stunning start by their openers. Mitchell Marsh (60 off 31) and Aiden Markram (53 off 38) scored half-centuries.

As MI bowlers were hit by LSG batters all over the park, Pandya came to the rescue and clinched a total of five wickets. The right-arm seamer dismissed Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran, Rishabh Pant, David Miller, and Akash Deep in the match.

Picking five wickets for 36 runs across four overs, Pandya has entered the record books with a memorable record. He has now registered the best bowling figures by a captain in the IPL.

He surpassed former Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) captain Anil Kumble for the record, who previously held the record with figures of 4/16 against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2010.

Here are the top five best bowling figures by captains in the IPL:

5. Shane Warne (RR) – 4/21 vs Deccan Chargers, IPL 2010

4. JP Duminy (DD) – 4/17 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2015

3. Anil Kumble (RCB) – 4/16 vs Deccan Chargers, IPL 2009

2. Anil Kumble (RCB) – 4/16 vs Deccan Chargers, IPL 2010

1. Hardik Pandya (MI) – 5/36 vs Lucknow Super Giants, IPL 2025

Despite Pandya’s incredible efforts in bowling, LSG have managed to post a gigantic total against MI at home. Now, it will be interesting to see if MI can chase down a mammoth target of 204 runs in the match. Notably, Hardik Pandya & Co. have lost two games out of three in IPL 2025 so far.

MI lost their opening game against Chennai Super Kings by four wickets and their second match against Gujarat Titans by 36 runs. However, they made a good comeback in their last match against Kolkata Knight Riders, outplaying them by eight wickets.
