Gujarat Titans dropped three catches in the powerplay overs during MI vs GT clash.
Gujarat Titans (GT) are locking horns with Mumbai Indians (MI) in 56th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, May 6. The MI vs GT clash is underway at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Shubman Gill leads the visitors GT while Hardik Pandya is the skipper of the home team MI.
GT skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. MI faced a poor start as they lost their openers Ryan Rickelton (2) and Rohit Sharma (7) cheaply. However, Will Jacks, batting at No. 3, scored a good knock of 53 runs while No.4 batter Suryakumar Yadav added 35 runs.
MI made a decent start in the powerplay overs by adding 56 runs on the board. However, they could have suffered more damage if GT showed better fielding efforts in the powerplay overs. Notably, the Titans dropped three crucial catches at the start.
Ifran Pathan, fans criticize GT’s poor fielding show on X
The visitors dropped three catches in the first six overs. In the first over, Sai Sudharsan dropped Will Jacks’ catch. Later, Sai Kishore dropped Yadav’s catch in the fifth over. In the sixth over, Mohammed Siraj dropped Jacks’ catch once again. Hence, MI got three lifelines at the start due to GT’s poor fielding efforts.
Fans were not happy with the series of dropped catches and criticized Shubman Gill & Co. on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). Former India pacer Irfan Pathan was also stunned to witness the Titans’ poor fielding against MI and tweeted about it on X. Have a look at Pathan’s and fans’ tweets below.
Meanwhile, despite the dropped catches, the Titans managed to restrict MI from going big in the match. Till the 17th over, MI lost their seven batters with a big batting collapse in the top and middle-order. Key batters like Tilak Varma (7), Hardik Pandya (1), and Naman Dhir (7) lost their wickets for single digits.
At the end of the 17th over, MI lost seven wickets for 125 runs on the scoreboard. GT made a good comeback with an impressive teamwork in bowling. All of their bowlers picked up at least one wicket to dismantle MI’s batsmen.
