Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since BGT 2024-25 test in Sydney.

Jasprit Bumrah, the ace Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer, will have to wait some more time before he can play in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for his franchise. The pacer has been at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) National Cricket Academy (NCA) and Center of Excellence (CoE) for an extended time since experiencing pain in his back.

On January 4, the second day of the final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 test in Sydney, he sustained the most recent injury. India won the ICC Champions Trophy last month, but Bumrah was unavailable for the tournament. Since his operation in March 2023, Bumrah has never experienced a back problem before.

India’s chief selector, Ajit Agarkar, stated that Bumrah had been instructed by the BCCI medical team to take a minimum of five weeks off following the SCG test when he announced the Champions Trophy squad in January.

As the Champions Trophy didn’t begin until February 19, Bumrah was part of India’s reserve team. In early February, he went to Bengaluru for more scans, but he was not included in the final team because he was still fully fit.

Jasprit Bumrah is to miss two more matches of MI before his IPL 2025 return

As per the latest ESPNCricinfo report, Bumrah, who has been under treatment since January due to lower back pain brought on by stress, is getting closer to playing again. At the BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru, he has been increasing his bowling workload in recent weeks.

It is believed that he will soon be taking the last round of fitness tests. Bumrah can only join MI and play in the IPL after receiving the all-clear from the BCCI medical staff.

It is known that Bumrah has been careful himself and wants to make sure he is completely healthy before playing again. This is because India will play a five-match test series in England from June 28.

This means in addition to missing Friday’s IPL 2025 match between MI and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Bumrah is also questionable for MI’s upcoming match on April 7 at home against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

With Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar spearheading the attack and Hardik Pandya serving as the other seam-bowling option in the lineup, MI have played three IPL 2025 games thus far, winning one and losing two. In Bumrah’s absence, they have given debuts to players like Ashwani Kumar, Vignesh Puthur, and Satyanarayana Raju.
