Shardul Thakur earlier went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In a sudden turn of events, discarded Indian international Shardul Thakur has joined the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The all-rounder replaced Mohsin Khan in the squad, who sustained an ACL injury during the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December. Shardul joined the Lucknow-based franchise for his base price of INR 2 crores.

The IPL shared an official statement regarding Thakur’s move to LSG and wrote, “The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have named Shardul Thakur as a replacement for left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the 18th season of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) due to injury.”

LSG confirmed the same through a post on social media.

The franchise also wished a speedy recovery to left-arm fast bowler Mohsin Khan, who has been ruled out of the tournament.

LSG’s injury woes

Nothing has fallen in place for LSG so far. They have struggled with multiple injuries with Mohsin Khan being the latest name to that list. LSG will also miss out on the services of Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan and Akash Deep for a few games as the trio is currently rehabilitation at BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Mohsin’s injury means LSG will be without any of their first choice pacers for their opening games against the Delhi Capitals.

Although there’s no official confirmation from the franchise about the availability of the trio, Mayank Yadav is set to spend a lot of time on sidelines to continue his recovery from a lower-back stress injury. Avesh Khan on the other hand is expected to return within a week if he manages to clear the tests next week Akashdeep is also undergoing recovery from a lower back stress injury.

Shardul Thakur’s IPL career

Shardul Thakur is a seasoned campaigner and knows the league in and out. He won two titles with the Chennai Super Kings and is a proven winner of the game. After representing CSK, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant and KKR, Shardul is all set to join his sixth IPL franchise. He has taken 94 wickets in 95 IPL appearances while maintaining an economy of 9.23.
