IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma becomes second batter after Virat Kohli to cross 7000 runs in the IPL

Rohit Sharma reached the milestone in 266 innings in the IPL.
Mumbai Indians (MI) are clashing with Gujarat Titans (GT) in the Eliminator match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The MI vs GT encounter is currently underway at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. MI opener Rohit Sharma scored a half-century in the clash. He scripted his name in the record books by becoming the second player to reach 7000 runs in the history of IPL. Virat Kohli was the first to achieve that milestone in the tournament’s history.
Notably, Sharma has crossed the mark of 7000 runs in his 266 innings. Sharma has been part of the tournament since the inaugural edition in 2008. He has also played in all 18 seasons over the years. The former MI skipper has slammed two centuries and 47 half-centuries in the tournament. He is also the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL after Kohli, who has scored 8618 so far in the league.
Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow give incredible start to MI in the Eliminator
Meanwhile, Sharma and Jonny Bairstow have given a strong start to the men in blue in the clash against GT in the Eliminator. Both of them slammed 79 runs in the powerplay overs to dominate GT bowlers. They also made an opening stand of 84 runs.
Notably, GT dropped two catches of Sharma at the start. He also slammed his third half-century of IPL 2025 in the GT vs MI clash. He is the third-highest run-scorer for MI in the tournament. The MI opener has scored more than 350 runs so far at a strike rate of 148.38.
Meanwhile, MI are short of pacer Deepak Chahar in the clash. Richard Gleeson has been inducted into the playing XI as a replacement. GT miss the services of Jos Butter in the clash, who has returned to England for national duty. They have roped in Kusal Mendis as a replacement.
