Gujarat Titans (GT) and Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns in the Eliminator clash of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, May 31. The encounter took place at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh. GT lost the match by 20 runs and were eliminated from IPL 2025.
MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. During the toss, an awkward moment occurred as Pandya tried to shake hands with Gill. However, the latter did not witness it. Later, when Gill lost his wicket cheaply for one run, Pandya was seen celebrating extra aggressively on the field.
Hence, some fans felt that there was some ego clash between the two players. The rumours about their rivalry became a trending topic on social media. However, Gill has rebuffed such rumours and clarified that there is no such rift between the two players.

Later, Sai Sudharsan scored an impressive 80 runs during the chase. Washington Sundar also added 48 runs as both batters kept the winning hopes alive. However, MI pacers bounced back to clinch crucial wickets towards the end and restricted the Titans to 208/6. MI will now face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Qualifier 2 on June 1 at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad.
