Rajat Patidar also won Man of the Match award in RCB’s win over MI on Monday.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar led his team to their first win over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2025. This was the first time RCB had beaten MI in Mumbai since the IPL 2015 edition, and this win came by 12 runs.

However, Patidar, who was also the Player of the Match, was punished by the IPL and BCCI for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after the match ended. He was slapped with a fine of INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate during his team’s recent victory.

On Monday, April 7, RCB defeated the MI by an exciting 12-run margin at the Wankhede Stadium. They have won three matches thus far out of four games played in the 2025 IPL season. Last week, the Bengaluru-based squad suffered its lone defeat at home against the Gujarat Titans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Rajat Patidar wins Player of the Match

Rajat Patidar hit five boundaries and four sixes in his scorching 64 off 32 deliveries. Despite being voted Player of the Match, he gave Krunal Pandya credit for maintaining composure during the nerve-racking last over. It was RCB’s first victory at the Wankhede in a decade, and it was an exciting victory over the Mumbai Indians.

This season, Patidar has been a vital member of the RCB team. His four-innings total of 161 runs is second only to top batsman Virat Kohli’s 164. He has given RCB’s batting a daring and aggressive approach in his maiden season as captain, which has been extremely important to their current IPL 2025 campaign thus far.

RCB’s Rajat Patidar fined INR 12 lakhs for a slow overrate offense

The IPL confirmed in an official statement that Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow over-rate. According to Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, it was RCB’s first transgression of the season.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. As this was his team’s first offense of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offenses, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the IPL statement read.

Three other IPL 2025 captains had received fines for a slow over-rate prior to this game. Rishabh Pant (Lucknow Super Giants), Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians), and Riyan Parag (Rajasthan Royals) all received fines for violating the Code of Conduct.
