James Anderson ended his glorious test career with 704 wickets to his name in 188 matches.

It was an emotional day for all cricket fans as legendary England seamer James Anderson stepped on the field for the last time in international cricket. He played his final test match at the iconic Lord’s cricket ground on July 12. With the Ashes 2025 on sight, England test captain Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum and managing director Robert Key convinced the legendary pacer Anderson to retire from the longest format.

The Lancashire speedster Anderson was the center of attention ahead of the Lord’s test, a venue where his test career began in 2003.

The 41-year-old Anderson ended his international career as England’s highest wicket-taker in ODI and test cricket. The Lancashire seamer played 188 tests and scalped 704 wickets at an average of 26.45. In ODIs, Anderson picked up 269 wickets in 194 games at an average of 29.22.

In his memorable test career for England, Anderson achieved many big milestones. The 41-year-old became the first seamer in the world to pick 700 or more test wickets.

Anderson is the first pacer to bowl more than 40,000 deliveries in the longest format. The legendary cricketer is also the third-highest wicket-taker after Shane Warne (708) and Muttiah Muralitharan (800) in test cricket.

Anderson gets standing ovation from the Lord’s crowd after England’s win over the West Indies

After Ben Stokes-led England won the first test match by an innings and 114 runs against the West Indies, 41-year-old pacer Anderson left the ground for one last time. It was an emotional moment for Anderson, as he started his career in 2003 at the Lords and played his last international match at the very same stadium.

With senior English seamer Anderson walking out of the field, the spectators at the iconic Lord’s gave him a standing ovation.

In the final test match of his career, Anderson took one wicket in the first innings and then scalped three more in the second innings against the West Indies.
