James Anderson quashes retirement speculations in his latest column

James Anderson is just 11 wickets away from his 700 test wickets milestone.

Nobody would have expected that James Anderson will be dropped from England's playing eleven in an Ashes test. England played without James Anderson in the 3rd test at Headingley. Anderson played three Ashes tests out of 4 in the ongoing series and looked off-color every time he bowled in the series. Anderson was closing in on the 700 milestone as his dream of touching it in the Ashes looks far from reality.

Anderson’s performance raises speculations over his retirement. James Anderson in his column for Telegraph quashes every speculation of retirement. Anderson has also expressed his thoughts over poor performance in the Ashes series.

James Anderson quashes retirement speculations

James Anderson in his column in Telegraph wrote, “I have certainly not had the returns I would have liked in this series. Everyone goes through a lean patch but you just don’t want it to be in the most high-profile series we play. 10 or 15 years ago the debate would be about whether I should be dropped. Now it is about my future. I understand that. It is Oval, the end of the series, and a time for speculation.

I keep talking to the coach and captain, they want me around, so as long as I am still hungry, and want to put in work then I will keep trying to give my best for the team. That’s exactly where I am at the minute”.

James Anderson has picked up only 4 wickets in 3 Ashes tests and his place in the Final Oval test looks in danger as England might be giving Mark Wood or Josh Tongue more game time. Despite the poor performance and age not being at his side, Anderson made it categorically clear that there are no thoughts about retirement in his mind.

Earlier on Wednesday Ben Stokes also made it clear that he will be looking for James Anderson in his squad for the upcoming series and he is still in plans for the team management. The 41-year-old has played 182 test matches for England and picked up 689 wickets in test cricket.
