Jasprit Bumrah named captain as Cricket Australia announces its test XI of the year 2024

Jasprit Bumrah took most wickets in test cricket in 2024.

Cricket Australia (CA) has announced its test team of the year 2024. India‘s test vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has been named as the captain of the side.

Bumrah has been the standout bowler this year, taking 71 wickets in 13 test matches, with five five-wicket hauls. Bumrah’s leadership was on display during the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Perth, where he led the Asian giants to a dominating 295-run victory.

Pacers Matt Henry (New Zealand) and Josh Hazlewood (Australia) join Bumrah in the pace attack of CA’s test team of the year. Henry’s brilliant year saw him pick 48 wickets at an average of 18.58, while Hazlewood claimed 35 wickets in 15 matches at an average of 13.60.

Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Bumrah as the two Indians in CA’s test XI of 2024

In addition to Bumrah, the team includes India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal who has been in excellent form, scoring 1478 runs at an average of 54.54 in 2024. Ben Duckett (England), who has dominated the test arena this year, will partner Jaiswal at the top of the order.

Joe Root (England) and Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand) occupy the No. 3 and 4 spots respectively following their solid performances this year. Root finished the year as the highest run-scorer in test cricket, while Ravindra scored two centuries.

England’s Harry Brook and Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis complete the middle order. Kamindu was a revelation for his side this year, while Brook continued his stellar initiation in test cricket.

Australia’s Alex Carey is named as wicket-keeper batter of the team for his 440 runs and 46 dismissals this year. Finally, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj completes the XI as the sole spinner. Maharaj took 35 wickets at an average of 19.20 in 2024.
