Jasprit Bumrah dethrones Ravi Ashwin to become new No. 1 ranked test bowler

Jasprit Bumrah was the joint highest wicket-taker in the two-match test series against Bangladesh.
Veteran Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has dethroned his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to become the new No. 1 ranked bowler in the latest ICC men’s test bowling rankings.
This is Bumrah’s second stint at the top of the ICC men’s bowling test rankings. Earlier, the right-arm speedster moved up to the No. 1 spot in February 2024, becoming the first ever Indian pacer to reach the top of the test bowling rankings.
In the latest ICC test bowling rankings, Bumrah has 870 points and is comfortably sitting at the top. Ravi Ashwin slipped down to second with 869 points to his name. Apart from these two, Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is at sixth with 809 points.
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin were two of the main heroes in helping India whitewash Bangladesh (2-0) in the recently-concluded two-match test series.
Bumrah and Ashwin were the joint highest wicket takers in the two-match test series against Bangladesh. Both took 11 wickets. With the bat, Ravi Ashwin was the sixth highest run-getter of the series.
Ashwin scored 114 runs, including a match-winning century in the opening test in Chennai. Ashwin was also awarded Player of the Series Award for his all-round performance with the bat and ball.

Virat Kohli back in top 10 in the latest ICC men’s test batting rankings
Following the test series against Bangladesh, Indian batter Virat Kohli climbed six places to sixth position in the latest ICC men’s test batting rankings. During the second test in Kanpur, Kohli scored 47 and 29*, which helped him to gain a significant rise in the latest ICC test batting rankings.
Apart from Kohli, Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal also gained two spots to reach third position and also registered a career-high rating in the format. Jaiswal’s rating is currently 792 in the latest test batting rankings.
The youngster was the highest run-getter of the test series against Bangladesh with 189 runs in four innings. Ahead of Jaiswal is New Zealand’s Kane Williamson at second place with 829 points. England veteran batter Joe Root continues to stay at the top with 899 rating points.
