Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy due to a lower back injury.

India have been handed a huge blow as they will be without the services of their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Bumrah had initially been named in the 15-man provisional squad last month. But on February 11, the last date for changes to be made in the provisional squad, the BCCI confirmed that the speedster won’t feature in the competition due to a lower back injury. Bumrah sustained his injury during the Sydney test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024/25 against Australia.

According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, although Bumrah’s latest scans “did not reveal anything severe, he is not entirely ready to return to bowling.” Hence, the 31-year-old who was the Man of the Tournament in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the Man of the Series in the BGT 2024/25, will not be part of India’s team in the Champions Trophy.

Who has replaced Jasprit Bumrah in India squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

The BCCI has named pacer Harshit Rana as Bumrah’s replacement in India’s Champions Trophy squad. Rana made his ODI debut recently against England. In his two ODI outings against England, Harshit returned with figures of 3/53 and 1/62.

India have Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh in their Champions Trophy to lead the pace attack.

Further, the BCCI replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal with Varun Chakravarthy in the Champions Trophy squad. The board has also named three non-traveling substitutes: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube.

The Champions Trophy 2025 will be played in three venues in Pakistan and in Dubai, where India will play all their matches, including the semi-final and final if they reach that stage. The tournament will be played from February 19 to March 9, with India kicking off their campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh.
