During banter with former CSK batsman Ambati Rayudu after the IPL 2024 final, Kevin Pietersen hilariously called him a “joker”.

Former England captain Kevin Pietersen has come out in support of Ambati Rayudu who is being hounded by fans of Virat Kohli, in particular, on social media for some of his comments about the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Rayudu has made some scathing comments and posts against Kohli and RCB in recent days. RCB knocked CSK out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, after which Rayudu posted CSK’s trophy-winning celebration from last year.

After the IPL final, where Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won their third IPL title, Rayudu once again attacked Kohli about the batter not being able to “lower his standards” according to other players. He also said that “Orange Cap doesn’t win you IPL” referring to how Kohli has twice won the Orange Cap but couldn’t take RCB to the title.

Amid his conversation with Pietersen after the IPL 2024 final in Chennai for Star Sports, the England legend jokingly called Rayudu a “joker”. The clip of this small incident went viral on social media. Rayudu was trolled mercilessly on social media after this.

Ambati Rayudu and I were messing around: Kevin Pietersen

On Tuesday, the former England batsman took to the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) and slammed those groups that have been abusing and trolling Rayudu, who is an IPL legend.

Pietersen tweeted, “Come on guys! This tribalism with/against Indian players on social media needs to slow down!

Example – @RayuduAmbati and I were messing around after the IPL final and all of sudden that banter has turned into an avalanche of abuse towards Ambati.

PLEASE stop it?”

On Twitter, the former CSK opener also spoke his mind about RCB’s failure to win a single IPL title. In his tweet, he said, “If only the management and the leaders had the teams interests ahead of individual milestones, RCB would have won multiple titles.”

This further led to more backlash against Rayudu from the fans of Virat Kohli.
