Kieron Pollard has been promoted from MI’s batting coach to head coach.
Mumbai Indians will look to make a strong comeback in IPL 2027 after a poor last edition. The five-time champions struggled throughout the season, finishing ninth in the points table with just 4 wins from 14 matches.
The team has not won an IPL title since 2020 and will hope to change that next season. The IPL 2027 auction will take place in December; MI will have to make some major decisions to bounce back strongly.
The franchise has now made a big change to its coaching staff ahead of the new season. Former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard has been appointed the new head coach of Mumbai Indians, replacing Mahela Jayawardene, who left the role last week.

Pollard has been with Mumbai Indians since 2010. He joined the team as a young player. He soon became the team’s key player and helped the franchise win five IPL titles.
Pollard was part of the Mumbai Indians team that won the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. He also helped the team win two Champions League T20 titles in 2011 and 2013.
The former all-rounder retired from IPL in November 2022. However, he stayed with the team and worked as their batting coach for the last four seasons.
After spending many years with the team as both a player and a coach, Pollard has now been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the coaching staff. This will be his first stint as head coach.
“MI have been a huge part of my life and career, and the bond I share with this team, the players and the Paltan means a great deal to me,” Pollard said in a statement.
MI co-owner Nita Ambani also welcomed Pollard’s appointment and spoke about his contribution to the team over the years.
“Pollard joined Mumbai Indians as a young 22-year-old and, over the past sixteen years, has become an integral part of our family,” Ambani said.
She added, “As a player, he gave us many unforgettable moments, and as a coach, he has continued to share his experience, passion and deep understanding of the game. We are delighted to see him take on this new responsibility as Head Coach.”
