KL Rahul managed scores of  4 and 10 in the second four-day match against Australia A.

Senior India cricketer KL Rahul‘s horror form continued as he managed scores of only 4 and 10 in the second first-class fixture against Australia A in Melbourne. But it was his bizarre dismissal in India A’s second innings that reflected his nervous and under-confident state of mind.

India had sent Rahul and Dhruv Jurel to Australia a week before the other squad members to participate in the second unofficial test of the two-match series ahead of the first test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Perth, starting November 22.

While Jurel utilised his opportunity to top-score for India A in their first innings with a score of 80, Rahul, while opening could muster only 14 runs in two outings.

The senior batsman suffered a brain fade moment during his second innings. He was dismissed by off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli while not playing any shot to an innocuous delivery that was sliding down the leg side.

The delivery pitched in line with the stumps and was moving down the leg stump. KL Rahul got himself in a weird position as he watched the ball, perhaps expecting it to go past his legs. But the ball ricocheted off his thigh onto the stumps. The Australians were delighted, even surprised by this kind of shot from Rahul, as the batsman walked back to the dressing room, dejected.

KL Rahul has done his chances no good of appearing in the Perth test. With Rohit Sharma, the captain and opener, all but certain to miss the Perth test due to personal reasons, India looked at Rahul as an option to open alongside Jaiswal.

However, with Rahul scoring only 14 runs in this four-day game at the MCG, India’s worries have been mounted. Abhimanyu Easwaran, the other opener in the squad, also failed in both matches, managing only 36 runs across four innings.
