KL Rahul hit a magical half-century before getting retired hurt in first SL vs IND Test.
The Sri Lanka Cricket Team are hosting the Indian Cricket Team in the two-match Test series. The series opener between the teams is being played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle, which commenced on August 15.
The toss went in favour of India and they opted to bat first in the encounter, which marks their 600th appearance in the longest format of the game. This marks an important game for the Shubman Gill-led side in the context of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 as they are placed fifth on the table.
India had a solid start to their innings, even though Yashasvi Jaiswal (32) got run out early. KL Rahul (77*) and Devdutt Padikkal were the main architects behind team’s strong foundation as they troubled Sri Lanka bowlers.
Both the batters stitched a 150-run partnership for the second wicket with both hitting sublime half-centuries. They ensured that India didn’t lose a wicket in the second session and kept the run rate in check.

However, in what was the big blow for Indian Cricket Team, KL Rahul suffered an injury in the first SL vs IND Test.
Rahul, who opened the innings, looked solid with the bat and hit a magical half-century. However, as he walked out after tea, he seemed to be in discomfort. He was receiving treatment in the dressing room, and as he walked out, he was still grimacing in pain.
Not only this, he was also is also limping. He was cramping everywhere and returned to the dressing room as Shubman Gill replaced him at the crease.
The team management would be hoping that his injury isn’t serious and Rahul returns to field soon. He will be key for India going ahead in the game, as the pitch is expected to favour spinners heavily in coming days.
