KL Rahul injury: LSG captain KL Rahul ruled out of remainder of IPL 2023 - Reports
Krunal Pandya will be leading Lucknow Super Giants in KL Rahul's absence.
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul is ruled out of the entire IPL 2023 season due to a hamstring injury. Rahul injured himself while chasing a boundary against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. This decision has been taken keeping the ICC World Test Championship final in mind. India will take on Australia in the WTC final at the Oval. Along with KL Rahul, Jaydev Unadkat, another member of the Indian team for the WTC final, is also ruled out of the entire season. This is a double blow for Lucknow Super Giants in the remaining IPL 2023 season.
BCCI assessing KL Rahul's injury
BCCI and Indian team management look concerned about Rahul’s injury and also his participation in the big ICC event. In the meantime, BCCI’s sports and science team along with a medical team will be working on KL Rahul. The World Test Championship final will start from 7th June at The Oval. IPL 2023 final will be played on 28th May in Ahmedabad. One BCCI sports & science team source told the media, “KL is currently with the team in Lucknow but he is leaving the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday. His scans will be done in Mumbai at the dedicated BCCI medical facility”. Rahul came in to bat at Number 11 against RCB.
So far there have been no scans done on KL Rahul’s injury, sources told the media. According to sources, “When someone sustains an injury like this, there is a considerable amount of pain and swelling in that area. The swelling takes around 24 to 48 hours to heal and only after that period you can do the scan”. BCCI will keep an eye on KL Rahul’s injury update and will decide the next course of action considering his condition. KL Rahul is an important member of the Indian team and he has a huge role in his hand for the WTC final.
Unlike the previous seasons, KL Rahul didn’t have a great run with the bat in the IPL 2023. Rahul is not in the list of top 10 leading run-scorers this season. In 9 innings he had scored only 2 half-centuries. He scored 68 against Gujarat Titans and 74 runs against Punjab Kings. Lucknow needed Rahul’s presence on the wicket badly against RCB. But due to his injury, he came in at Number 11. Krunal Pandya will be taking the responsibility of leadership in Rahul’s absence. Krunal came in for the toss against Chennai Super Kings.
