KL Rahul officially ruled out of IPL 2023 & WTC final; Set to undergo surgery for his thigh injury

In a massive blow to India and Lucknow, KL Rahul has been ruled out of the ongoing IPL and upcoming WTC final.

Taking to social media, Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul confirmed that he will be missing the remainder of the IPL and the World Test Championship final set to be played at The Oval, England, next month.

Rahul stated that he'll be undergoing surgery on his thigh, while also expressing disappointment on being ruled out of the IPL 2023 and the WTC final, which will be played against Australia from 7th June.

"After careful consideration and consultation with the medical team, it's been concluded that I'll be undergoing surgery on my thigh shortly. My focus will be on my rehabilitation and recovery in the coming weeks. It's a tough call to make, but I know it's the right one to ensure a full recovery," Rahul wrote on Instagram

KL Rahul was injured in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore and was carried off the field. He did come out to bat but was unable to get his team across the line. LSG eventually lost the game by seven runs.

"As the team captain, it pains me deeply not to be able to be there during this crucial period. But, I'm confident that the boys will rise to the occasion and give their best performance as always. I'll be cheering for them from the sidelines with all of you, watching every game. Absolutely gutted that I won't be at the Oval next month with Team India. I'll do everything I can to get back in blue and help my country," he added.

Before he injured himself in the match against RCB, Rahul aggregated 274 runs in eight innings at a dismal strike rate of 113.22 and an average of 34.25. With only two fifties against his name in nine innings, KL was under constant criticism.

As far as the WTC final is concerned, he was expected to bat at number five and keep wickets, but his injury has now thrown those plans out of the park. It will be interesting to see who replaces him in the squad for the all-important final at The Oval.
