The Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies will tour England for three-match test series in July.
On June 4, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) senior men’s selection panel announced a 15-man squad, led by skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, to tour England next month for a three-Test series.
Only three players of the West Indies squad in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024 are part of this selected 15-man test squad to take on Ben Stokes‘ team in July. West Indies have also included 19-year-old pacer Isai Thorne as a development player to travel with the squad to England.
Less than two weeks after the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, England will host West Indies for three test matches.
Jason Holder, who is currently missing the T20 World Cup due to injury, will return to the test team after opting out of the tour to Australia earlier this year to play in the International League T20 (ILT20) tournament in the UAE. He is expected to be fit in time for this Test series which will kick off on July 10.
West Indies have picked Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach as their three frontline pacers with Holder to support them.
Alzarri Joseph has been named as Kraigg Brathwaite’s deputy.
Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul has been dropped after managing only 31 runs in four innings in Australia. He has been replaced in the squad by Mikyle Louis, the leading run-scorer of the West Indies Championship 2023/24 season.
West Indies had recorded a memorable victory over Australia earlier this year at the Gabba, courtesy of heroics from Shamar Joseph.
Their next aim is to retain the Richards-Botham Trophy, which they won in 2022 against England at home.
