KL Rahul injured himself while fielding against RCB in match 43 of the IPL 2023.

Lucknow Super Giants' all-rounder Krunal Pandya shared the status on KL Rahul's injury after the 18-run loss to the Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday at Ekana. The Baroda-born all-rounder was unclear about the severity of the opening batter's injury and that the medical team will assess it.

Rahul, the Super Giants' captain, seemed to have pulled his thigh muscle at the end of the second over while trying to prevent the boundary. The physios had to come to attend to the flamboyant opener as he looked in considerable pain. He didn't return for the remainder of the innings, forcing Pandya to assume the captaincy duties.

Alongside admitting that LSG batters failed to execute their plans while chasing a modest 127 for victory, Pandya shared an update regarding Rahul.

He said in the post-match presentation:

"We did pretty well in the first half restricting them. It was a great team effort. Really happy with how we have bowled this tournament. 126, at the start of the game, we would have taken. But we just could not execute our plans. (On Rahul's injury) It is a sad thing. He pulled his hip flexor, I guess. I do not know how bad it is. The medical team will assess it."

KL Rahul came to bat at number eleven during the run-chase:

Rahul, who often opens the innings with Kyle Mayers, dropped down to number eleven and arrived in 19th over when LSG needed 24 off the final eight balls. However, he didn't get off the mark even after facing four deliveries.

The Super Giants had already gotten off to a forgettable start, losing Kyle Mayers for a duck in the very first over. They kept losing wickets and failed to string even one partnership. Krishnappa Gowtham, who earlier bagged figures of 2-0-10-1, top-scored with 23 off 13 balls. Six of the 11 Super Giants batters failed to reach double figures as they slumped to their fourth loss of IPL 2023.
