The coming ICC event is 6-7 months away and will be co-hosted by USA and West Indies. This tournament will start on June 4. A total of 20 teams from around the globe will take part in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Five teams each will be divided into four groups. The top two teams from each group will make it to the Super 8. Then the top four teams from the Super 8 found will qualify for the semi-finals. On Thursday, Uganda became the 20th team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and we have all 20 participants now. In this article, we will talk about 20 teams that will be playing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Here is the List of all 20 teams who have qualified for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024
20. Uganda:
Uganda became the 20th team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. They qualified from the Africa Region Qualifier 2023. A total of seven teams took part in it for two places. With 5 wins out of six matches, Uganda finished the table in second place and became the second team to qualify from the Africa Region Qualifier 2023. They will play their first ever ICC tournament.
19. Namibia:
Uganda were the second team to qualify from the Africa Region Qualifier 2023, while Namibia were the first team to make it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 through this tournament. Namibia still have a game left to play, but they have won five out of five matches, which helped them make it to the T20 World Cup 2024. Surprisingly, Zimbabwe and Kenya failed to make it through.
18. Oman:
Two teams qualified from the Asia Qualifier played between October 30 and November 5, 2023, in Nepal. Oman were the second team to make it through. A total of 8 teams took part, and Oman made it to the final of the tournament. They won the final against Nepal (a super over) and qualified for the T20 World Cup.
17. Nepal:
After Oman, the second team to qualify through the Asia Qualifiers were the hosts Nepal. Nepal beat UAE in the semi-final to face Oman in the final. The final game ended in a tie, with both teams ending at 184 runs. Oman won the super over by being the finalists, and Nepal also made it through the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
16. Canada:
A total of four teams locked horns to grab one spot through the Americas Qualifier. Bermuda, Canada, Cayman Islands, and Panama were those teams. The final was played between Canada and Bermuda, and it was Canada who came out victorious by 39 runs. Hence, Canada became the only team to qualify through the Americas Qualifier 2023.
15. Papua New Guinea:
The East Asia-Pacific Qualifier took place between July 22–29, 2023, with a total of four teams (Japan, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and Philippines). Eventually, it were Papua New Guinea who ended the tournament on top and went on to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 as the 15th team.
14. Scotland:
The Europe Qualifier was most exciting, with a total of 28 teams across Europe taking part in six different groups. A total of seven teams qualified for the final qualifier. Only two spots were granted through this Europe Qualifier. In the end, Scotland won the tournament and made it to the T20 World Cup 2024.
13. Ireland:
The second team to qualify from the Europe Qualifier were Ireland. They faced Scotland in the final of the tournament but suffered a loss by eight runs. But despite that, they have made it to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. This will be their 8th consecutive appearance in the T20 World Cup.
12. Bangladesh:
Bangladesh didn’t end the last T20 World Cup edition in Australia within the top 8 teams. Hence, they didn’t qualify directly. But as per the qualification scenario, two teams, as per the rankings until November 14, 2022, would make it to the upcoming T20 World Cup, and Bangladesh were one of those two. Hence, they will also feature in the coming ICC event.
11. Afghanistan:
Just like Bangladesh, another team that qualified on the basis of the ICC T20I team rankings at the end of November 14, 2022, were Afghanistan. The Afghan team finished the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia at 12th place. But their rankings on the given deadline were better, which helped them make it to the coming T20 tournament.
10. Sri Lanka:
Sri Lanka finished the T20 World Cup 2022 with two wins out of five, but they still ended the tournament in 8th place, which helped them grab a seat for the upcoming ICC event. The winner of the 2014 edition will be keen to revamp their strength and do well this time around, as their performances on big stages have weakened in the last few years or so.
9. Netherlands:
Netherlands are one team that have really improved in the last couple of years. They won against Zimbabwe and South Africa in the 2022 edition, which helped them finish 7th in the tournament. Hence, the Dutch will also be part of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024. And with the way they are improving, it looks like they will give other teams some hard time.
8. South Africa:
South Africa finished the 2022 edition at 6th place and will hope that they can do well in the upcoming ICC event. The Proteas have always been one of the best all-format sides, but unfortunately, they haven’t won a single ICC event so far. Hence, they will be looking to turn things around this time around, and they have a team to do that in 2024.
7. Australia:
Australia won the 2021 edition in UAE, but they couldn’t defend the title at home. They finished with 7 points, but they will have a chance to win the next one. Notably, Australia have now won both ICC events in the other two formats and will be keen to win them in the shorter format as well. Australia won the WTC 2023 and World Cup 2023 and beat India in both of the tournament finals.
6. New Zealand:
Talking about consistency, New Zealand have always been a consistent team in ICC events. They always qualify for the semis or finals in the big tournament. But the Kiwis are yet to win an ICC tournament in white-ball format. But they will be looking to end this drought and do well in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
5. India:
The winners of the inaugural edition in 2007, have not won an ICC tournament since 2013. India made it to the semi-finals in 2022 but lost to England. They also lost the finals of the WTC 2023 and the World Cup 2023 against Australia on both occasions. Hence, India are looking to win an ICC title desperately. So they will be one of the favorites to win the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
4. Pakistan:
Pakistan ended the 2022 edition as a runners-up. They lost the final to England, but Pakistan are one of the best teams when it comes to T20 cricket. They won the 2009 edition under Younis Khan. The Men in Green will be playing in the 2024 edition and will be a strong side in the competition.
3. England:
The defending champion England will be defending their title among the other teams in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 in West Indies and USA. But they will look to defend it successfully because the way they performed in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 was very disappointing. But England will surely be among the favorites to win the coming event.
2. United States of America (USA) (hosts):
The United States of America (USA) qualified for the T20 World Cup 2024 by default as a host nation. This is the first time that they will be playing in any edition of the T20 World Cup. It can be a breakthrough moment in USA cricket history. They will be playing at home and will look to give tough times to the other teams.
1. West Indies (hosts):
The two-time champions West Indies have also made it to the tournament as a host nation. They couldn’t qualify last time in Australia, and then they couldn’t feature in the World Cup 2023 in India. But this time, they will be playing the tournament and are expecting a better show. West Indies have a good team, and at home, their record is pretty good.
