Islamabad United won the inaugural season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in 2016.

With the success of the Indian Premier League, every test-playing nation developed their own franchise tournament to strengthen their domestic cricket structure. One such tournament was introduced in Pakistan in 2016, known as the Pakistan Super League (PSL). It had five teams in the first two editions, which increased to six in total.

Since then, this tournament has been played once every year, with all Pakistani stars and some big names across the globe taking part in it. With every passing season, the PSL gained popularity, and it has become one of the best-known franchise leagues in the world. Interestingly, all six teams have won the title at least once.
