Indian Premier League (IPL) is among the most competitive franchise T20 leagues, where 10 teams battle for the title each season. The competition for the playoffs often witnesses a close fight, with a few teams also losing out on Net Run Rate (NRR).

Winning an IPL trophy is like a dream come true for any team. Teams like Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants are yet to win their first IPL trophy.

A few teams have won IPL tournaments once, while some have bagged the tag of champions multiple times. On that note, below are the teams who have won multiple titles in the Indian Premier League.

Teams who have won more than one trophy in the IPL

1. Chennai Super Kings- 5

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the joint-most successful team in the tournament with five titles in their kitty. The Men-in-Yellow won the IPL for the first time in 2010 and became the first team to defend their title by winning in the 2011 edition. Later, Chennai went on to win the trophy in 2018, 2021, and 2023, all under MS Dhoni’s leadership.

2. Mumbai Indians- 5

Mumbai Indians (MI) have also won five IPL titles. They became the champions for the first time in the 2013 edition by defeating CSK in the final. Later, they also won the tournament in the 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 editions. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, MI were the most dominant team in the IPL during the last decade.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders- 3

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have bagged three trophies in the IPL. Under Gautam Gambhir’s leadership, they won the titles in 2012 and 2014 by defeating CSK and Punjab Kings respectively. After a gap of 10 years, Shreyas Iyer led them to their third trophy in the IPL 2024, where they outplayed Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final.
