LSG captain KL Rahul fined for maintaining slow over rate against RR
KL Rahul led Lucknow Super Giants to a 10-run win over Rajasthan Royals.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul has been fined by the IPL governing council for maintaining a slow over rate in their narrow win over Rajasthan Royals (RR) in IPL 2023 on April 19 in Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh stadium.
Rahul-led LSG defeated table-toppers RR by 10 runs on what was a challenging surface for the batters. Sanju Samson opted to field first and his bowlers managed to restrict LSG for 154/7 in 20 overs. Kyle Mayers top scored with 51 and KL Rahul made 39 in 32 balls, while Nicolas Pooran made 29 in final overs. LSG had made a solid start with their openers adding 82 runs in 10.3 overs before being separated.
For RR, Ravichandran Ashwin picked 2 wickets, while Trent Boult, Sandeep Sharma and Jason Holder picked a wicket apiece.
In the chase, RR openers also made a good start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler stitching an 87-run partnership. LSG bowlers did well in the middle overs and with 24 deliveries remaining, RR needed 48 to win.
Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul fined INR 12 lakhs for slow over rate
A couple of good overs left the home team with 19 to win from the last six deliveries but Avesh Khan managed to defend those runs despite being struck for a four off the first delivery. Devdutt Padikkal made 26 and Riyan Parag remained not out on 15 as RR finished on 144/6 and lost the match by 10 runs.
However, the win proved to be a bit costly for the LSG team, as captain KL Rahul was docked INR 12 lakhs for slow overate offence.
“Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Wednesday. As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Rahul was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” IPL statement said.
LSG will next host Gujarat Titans on April 22nd, while RR will travel to Bengaluru on April 23.
