Massive blow for Lucknow Super Giants as new overseas recruit gets ruled out; In race against time to be fit ahead of IPL 2024
Lucknow Super Giants signed Ashton Turner at the IPL 2024 auction for INR 1 crore.
The 13th edition of the Big Bash League is underway. The defending champion Perth Scorchers are looking to defend their title and win their sixth overall championship. Their opening game of the season was washed out, but they have now won consecutive games and are in second place in the points table. However, ahead of their next match against the Melbourne Renegades on December 26, the Scorchers suffered a massive blow.
Scorchers’ skipper Ashton Turner has been ruled out of the remainder of the league following knee surgery. In the last game against the Hobart Hurricanes on December 20, Turner was seen limping off the field after completing his over. Though earlier it was told that it was not a severe injury and he would be coming back.
Ashton Turner ruled out of the BBL 2023-24 after a knee surgery
It is a massive blow for the defending BBL champions, as their captain, who led them to the title in the last two consecutive seasons, has been ruled out. The BBL franchise released a statement: “The incident saw him leave the field and take no further part in the match, with subsequent scans revealing surgery was required. An exact timeframe for Turner’s return will be determined in due course.”
Notably, Turner has been having his knee issue for the entire season and missed two Sheffield Shield matches for Western Australia ahead of the BBL 13. He was advised to undergo the surgery earlier as well, but he planned to do it after the conclusion of BBL 13. Vice-Captain Josh Inglish can be the next captain, while all-rounder Aaron Hardie can also be considered, as he led the team in Turner’s absence in the last game.
The Lucknow Super Giants bought Ashton Turner for his base price of INR 1 crore at the recently concluded IPL 2024 auction. It will be an injury scare for the IPL franchise as well. There are a few months left until the start of the IPL 2024, and the overseas star needs sufficient time to get fit.
