Lungi Ngidi has been added to South Africa’s squad following Kagiso Rabada’s rib injury.

South Africa Cricket Team have made a massive addition to their squad for the second test against Indian Cricket Team. The Proteas team have added Lungi Ngidi as cover for Kagiso Rabada, who is suffering from a rib injury and might not be able to participate in the second test.

Rabada was ruled out of the first test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata due to a rib injury, as revealed by captain Temba Bavuma at the toss. However, his absence did not affect Proteas as they dominated India and crushed them to gain a 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The second test will start on Saturday, November 22 at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, which will host a test match for the first time. While the hosts will aim for a comeback in the series to draw the two-match series, Temba Bavuma & Co. will look forward to a clean sweep. In the previous clash, they registered a test match victory in India after 15 years.

Meanwhile, Ngidi has played 20 tests so far in his career, with his last appearance in the test series against Australia in June 2025. At an average of 23.38, he has clinched 58 scalps in 35 innings.

Despite missing Rabada’s services in the opening game, South Africa gave an impeccable bowling show, bowling out India for just 93 runs in the second innings against a target of 124 runs. Simon Harmer starred with his spin, clinching four-wicket hauls in both innings to win Player of the Match award.

Ngidi’s addition now has further strengthened their pace unit, however, it remains to be seen if he will be part of the playing XI in the Guwahati test.
