Glenn Maxwell was cleaned up by Watt for only 11 runs in Gros Islet, St Lucia.
Scotland’s left-arm spinner Mark Watt bowled a sensational delivery to get rid of Australia’s Glenn Maxwell in the AUS vs SCO Group B encounter at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
On Saturday night, at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, Australia and Scotland played out a close contest. Australia won by 5 wickets but the Scots gave a huge scare when they had Australia 60/3 while defending 180.
This was a virtual knockout game for Scotland as they needed to win this to go into the Super 8 round, but their loss resulted in England proceeding to the next round.
Maxwell’s was the third Australian wicket to fall, through a terrific delivery from Watt. The ‘Big Show’ managed 11 runs in his 8-ball knock. On the second ball of the 9th over of Australia’s innings, Watt bowled a peach to castle the Australia number 4 batter.
From around the wicket angle, Watt pitched this ball on good length on the off-stump line. Maxwell perhaps played for the ball to come into him with the angle and looked to push it on the leg side with a slightly slanted bat.
However, the ball straightened after pitching. It took a little bit of Maxwell’s outside edge and crashed into the off-stump to leave the batter puzzled. It seems that even Watt was impressed with his own delivery, as his reactions suggested.

After Maxwell’s wicket, Travis Head and Marcus Stoinis launched Australia’s counter-attack. Head scored 68 (49) and Stoinis blasted 69 (29) before Tim David’s 24* (14) sealed the game for Australia and knocked Scotland out of the competition.
